The Economic and Social Research Institute, founded in 1960, is located in Dublin’s South Docklands area. Its mission is to produce high quality research, relevant to Ireland’s economic and social development, with the aim of contributing to knowledge and informing policymaking and public debate. It has over 120 core staff including economists, sociologists, psychologists, social scientists, support and technical staff. In addition, the Institute has a temporary workforce of almost 200 survey interviewers working on the Growing Up in Ireland project.
The ICP Office carries out activities in the areas of corporate information, communications and publications to support the achievement of the Institute’s strategic priorities.
The ICP team has a number of new projects and work packages to be implemented as part of the communications strategy and dissemination activities, which support the ESRI’s Strategy. The internship role responsibilities will include:
• Actions supporting the digital dissemination of research output - in the areas of direct communications, social media (Twitter/LinkedIn), infographics, and preparing the monthly newsletter etc.
• Supporting communications activities in relation to ESRI conferences and seminars, such as preparing and issuing notifications, preparing conference materials and updating the website.
• Providing support for media relations, such as issuing press releases and compiling reports of media coverage.
• Support on website including content updating, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO); etc.
• Administration support for the development of a communications database (e.g. a CRM).
• Actions to enhance publications open access
• The role also provides ad hoc administrative assistance and reception cover as required.
Skills & Knowledge Requirements
• Demonstrated knowledge of the latest techniques in communication, marketing and technology;
• Demonstrated ability to develop creative content, monitor and investigate emerging social media trends and new tools;
• Understanding of digital marketing and media; and the potential reputational impact of media coverage;
• Proficiency in MS Office suite and a variety of other software packages including data analytics packages
• Excellent writing and oral communication skills – ability to get ideas across clearly and effectively; keeping the message on track and connecting the key message to the appropriate audience;
• Knowledge/experience of good website design, search engine optimisation and proficiency in updating websites;
• Attention to detail;
• Demonstrated ability to work independently on own initiative, whilst contributing to a team;
• Critical thinking and problem solving skills;
• Proven ability to deliver outputs to tight deadlines;
• Interest in the work and the mission of the ESRI.

Based in the offices of the ESRI, Whitaker Square, Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, Dublin 2.
ESRI internships are temporary posts and attract a stipend of €355.00 per week. This internship will run from June 2018 to May 2019.
Working hours are 37 hours per week, 9.00am to 5.30pm Monday – Thursday and 9.00am to 5.00pm Friday with an hour for lunch each day. Annual leave is 24 days per annum pro-rata.
